ATHLETICS
WERNER SEELEBINDER Surname: Seelenbinder He was one of the most highly rated Greek Roman fighters. In Dortmund, Seelenbinder won the German Champion title. He participates in sports competitions abroad to transport propaganda material linked to the International Red Relief against the Nazi regime. From 1938 he began his real militancy in the resistance struggle. Seelenbinder takes part in the Berlin Olympics and, in case of victory, he plans to make a striking gesture against Hitler and his regime. He will finish fourth, but his project does not go unnoticed, partly because he had done nothing to keep it hidden. On November 4th 1942, an SS blitz imprisoned the majority of the Robby group, including Seelenbinder who was captured and imprisoned first in the Alexanderplatz prison and later deported to Grossbeeren. In the concentration camp he is tortured to reveal the names of his fugitive companions, but he does not give in to violence. On October 24th 1944 in the concentration camp of Brandeburg-Gorden Seelenbinder, he is beheaded. |
